Music is what feelings sound like....
Since its inception in 2010, Studio 101A has focused on capturing those "feelings" found in original music - as presented to the studio by local, regional and national artists. Located in Merrimack, New Hampshire, Studio 101A is about a one hour drive from nearby Boston and a twenty minute drive from the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
Services
Studio 101A consists of the control room, live room (tracking), break room, restroom and office space.
Recording
With 50 microphones, 48 A/D and D/A channels, and 52 preamps, Studio 101A can easily accommodate individual artists and small groups. A typical group session has been bands with four to six artists. The studio has an assortment of diffusion and absorption panels, as well as structural treatments, that support a quality recording environment. Some artists bring their own engineer, while others opt to use the Berklee-trained house engineer.
Mixing
While primarily a Pro Tools shop, Studio 101A can accommodate a number of other industry DAWs. Check the list of DAWs in our Gear section. The studio has a selection of outboard compressors, EQ and reverb hardware. In additon, check our gear list for the extensive collection of plugins that run in 64-bit native mode and/or in multiple DSP cards. No mixing session is too complex to handle.
Mastering
When budgets permit, some of the albums recorded at Studio 101A have gone to professionals dedicated to the art of mastering. Studio 101A has trained with Alan Silverman (www.arfproductions.com) and Friedemann Tischmeyer (www.mastering-academy.com). In deference to budget and convenience, many artists decide to have their album mastered by Studio 101A. The final deliverable is a Disc Description Protocol (DDP) file for use in submission to a CD or vinyl replication facility. If the delivery target is download or streaming, the appropriate digital package is supplied.
Rates
Sessions at Studio 101A can be booked at a flat rate of $40 per hour. Or, you can take advantage of an extended weekend package of noon to midnight on any Friday, Saturday or Sunday for the package price of $400 for each day booked.

The Studio 101A house engineer has a degree in electrical engineering from The University of Michigan. He also has a Masters Certificate in Music Production and Technology from the Berklee School of Music and has attended the Mastering Academy at ARF Studios in New York City.
